Cu Chi Tunnels underground named among top 7 underground destinations

Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post has listed the underground guerrilla warfare tunnels in Hochiminh city’s suburban district of Cu Chi among the top seven tunnel tours in the world.

Located some 70km north-west of Hochiminh city, the Cu Chi Tunnels are an enduring symbol of the Vietnam War. The 250-kilometre-long complex was built in the late 1940s and underwent intense bombardment by the Americans in the 1960s.

Today the tunnels are preserved as a war memorial and attract millions of visitors every year.

Last year the Cu Chi Tunnels were eighth out of the top 25 Asian landmarks voted for by TripAdvisor travelers.

American news site CNN has listed it as one of the world’s top underground tourist attractions.
