Bac Kan to develop Ba Be Lake into leading eco-tourism area

The People’s Committee of the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a conference on Tuesday to discuss development of Ba Be Lake’s environs into one of the country’s top eco-tourism sites.

A project for the purpose was approved by the Government last October.

Tourism experts said the province should develop various tourism options available around Ba Be Lake – like adventure, ecological, and spiritual tourism – making full use of its cave and falls systems and breathtaking scenery.

They suggested that the province should dovetail its tourism development with Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang, operating tours along the Nang and Gam rivers by traditional boats or motorboats.

Ba Be National Park finds a place in the list of Ramsar wetlands of international importance, and is the most famous and popular tourism destination in Bac Kan.

The 10,000ha park’s bio-diversity is also impressive, with 1,268 species of flora and fauna. The site was also recognised as an ASEAN Heritage Park in 2004. — VNS
